Hopefully it starts right where the dude started to do it. But he sets about a 1 ft² 2" thick piece of walnut on the spoilboard and then tacks down the edges with a little bit of glue from a glue gun, and then goes nuts cutting.

Is this a thing?

I made a torsion box for a planer sled. I regularly hold down a board onto the planer sled with hot glue. Shim the corners to keep it from rocking, then hot glue the shims and the corners. Works pretty well. This slab is so big and heavy - it would probably work just fine.

edit : I get what you mean - you’re only gluing the piece as well, but the shims if needed too.

How big a glob do you have to put down? Do you do all the sides? That’s pretty cool… I imagine you can’t get too crazy with the feedrate.

I use hot glue to hold down pieces for surfacing all the time. Shim, glue the shim to the workpiece and the spoil board. I lay down a line of about 2” on the x and y sides of each corner. If you think you need more….use more. Obviously avoid heavy cuts that cause a lot of torque.

As JLP says “Amazin’!”

Assuming you have to use a beefier glue stick and not just a craft glue, eh?

I’m going to give this a go this weekend - thanks fellas!

Craft glue sticks are plenty strong.
