I was asked to find the license of my control and tried to open it to get the code numbers, then as soon as I tried to open it, support said don’t open it. oops, now I have changed it to Acrobat Reader instead of whatever is was before. Will it still work or can someone show or tell me what it should be set at. I will stay away form… open with… from now on ha ha.
Share us a pic of what you’re seeing on the screen. You can use a tool like Snipping Tool to capture the screen portion showing the icon so we can offer suggestions. Anything can be fixed, if you’re determined.
Hey poolrod sorry to hear you’re having trouble. Couple things to note below…
- Despite it showing the file as being associated with Adobe Acrobat Reader, it’s still the same core file it always was and there’s never a need for you to open it directly. It’s just a text file and Mach4 will still be able to read its contents and license your software.
- If you want to press forward with changing it back (undoing the error you made) you can check out some online resources - for example How to Remove File Type Association Windows 10 Easily - MiniTool Partition Wizard
- In order to complete the above, you’ll need to know the file type extension (probably .TXT) - for example https://www.makeuseof.com/ways-to-make-windows-10-show-file-extensions/
- Lastly, if you do get this sorted but aren’t sure if the license file has been damaged in some way, you can always re-download the license from within the account you created at MachSupport.com when you registered the software. Related - Mach Support has their own forum if you need help troubleshooting your actual license too.
Best of luck!
Ok great, thank you very much for the info, I never opened it so I wasn’t sure if it would work with my new file associations ha ha.
