3/4 Inch Plywood Cutting with 45Watt Laser

In looking over the OPT 45watt laser offered by AVID I read that the laser will cut 3/4 inch plywood (wood).

Have you tried this? How clean is the cut? What is the feed rate? Is the cut fine and clean or is there a lot of burn from going slowly on travel? Can this be used for fine cutting or reserved for rough cutting? is this depth of cut possible in a single pass?

This is correct, you can do it:

Should you? Probably not. You have to cut at about 5-10 IPM. You risk creating a lot of smoke or a fire cutting like that.

You should use the spindle for cutting wood that thick.

Thank you! I was suspicious of being able to cut 3/4” wood. You confirmed what I was thinking, a lot of smoke, and risk of fire. Those before we even address cut quality.

Thanks for the info!

No problem! Just wanted to be honest about what is realistic to do with it!

Eric’s answer is exactly right, can do, but not great quality. If you must do 3/4”, then try a two sided cut, that works pretty well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qg-t4rrfV5E&t=270s

Interesting solution. thanks for the tip!
