Oh crap! Now what? My gantry is so messed up!

I just got done running an hour job. No issues.

Went to do a tool change and it was heading home then the teeth on the left side were grinding the gears. It got out of square and not moving!

I wish I could attach a video to show this.

The tension on the coil springs appear identical. Same number of threads below the nut.
The gap between coils measured the same too.

How do I correct this?

To undo the error, at least, all you should have to do is loosen one of the tension bolts until the gear disengages. Then manually re-square the gantry as best you can, and re-tension. You’ll have to re-home that axis of course so it squares the gantry the rest of the way.

You could also loosen both tension bolts, so the motors aren’t driving the gantry, and make sure the motors work

Also check the left side to see if something got stuck in the moving bits and jammed it

Yes, this is what I"m going to have to do.

Just got off the phone with tech support. I always felt that my Y travel sounded slightly harsh compared to my X travel.

I think I may have over tensioned the motor belts, so I’m going to disassemble them and readjust accordingly.

Found the problem! See image below. What do you notice?

The screw came loose and jammed against the backside of the large belt roller, preventing it from rotating. I probably should have put LocTITE on everything!

Lesson learned!
