I just bought a used Desktop Pro Machine. It comes with a spindle but unfortunately my shop is wired only for 110v and this can not be changed.
I had a Onefinity previously and did everything with a Makita trim router. It was not amazing but it worked fine. I was planning on getting a Sienci Labs Autospin T1 router to use with the Avid machine as it looks like a step up from the Makita.
Now it looks like AVID doesn’t make a 65mm mount? There are mounts for all sorts of smaller routers but not for the 65mm size?
I’d really like to use that Sienci labs router. I see that there’s generic 65mm mounts for sale on Amazon but I’d have to figure out a way to attach it to the AVID baseplate and I’m not sure how I’d do that.
I have the tramming mount from the Spindle and hopefully will be able to use that.
Anolex cnc seems to have a 65 mm spindle mount for their 3020 evo that has an adapter plate that it bolts onto. Its mounting holes are 70mm. The avid needs 2.5 inches (63.5 mm). The mount and adapter cost $32. I would try that and drill some holes 2.5 inches apart in the adapter plate. If you go this route make sure that you have enough spacing to fit the head of the router (it over hangs the mount).
PWNCNC will sell you a 65mm mount and claims that they will custom drill an adapter for you. You can get a pdf of the avid mount from the avid site (or better yet measure what you have) to get the measurements that they need.
thanks for that response! It got me thinking, I ended up ordering a Genmitsu mount and I’m hopeful I can drill and tap holes for it into the adapter plate.
I wound up getting a water cooled (very quiet) 80mm spindle from pwncnc and a 80mm mount from avid. Worked out very well. I like the speed control and the lack of noise.
As per the suggestion above, I made a 3d printed drilling guide for the Genmitsu 65mm router mount. I haven’t hooked up the router yet but otherwise it seems to have worked perfectly. This is for the tramming mount, which I already had.
The 3d print has holes to index to the lower set of holes in the tramming mount and then you can drill the 4 holes for the Genmitsu mount. The tramming mount uses the same screws as the Genmitsu mount, so you can screw the guide to the tramming mount with the Genmitsu screws. I bought a cheap tap and die set on ebay, worked fine.
