I’ve cut acrylic once. Used a 1/8" spiral O-flute bit. Light cuts, move fast, air jets to clean out the swarf.
Not sure if that applies to PVC though.
Just cut some PVC sheet for an art group a month ago. It’s soft stuff. An upcut O-Flute works great. It keeps the heat off the material. Just use good feeds and speeds. You can also use a compression bit in it too. 1/4th bit chip load 0.1 a 0.12 per tooth.
Hey just finished a project using 3/4" PVC expanded sheets, Cut very nicely with 3/8" 3 flute upcut first leaving 1/8" with 1 pass at 150 ipm 17500 rpms and final cut 1 pass cleaner with 1/4" O-flute upcut 90 ipm 18000 rpms. nice clean edges and quick.
PVC sheets are typically cut using carbide tools. Thin sheets can be cut with a utility knife, while thicker sheets are commonly cut using a circular saw or a specialized CNC plastic cutting tool. Additionally, for machine cutting applications, please refer to this guide on cutting tool types. Note that the cutting tool must be kept sharp to prevent overheating and melting of the material.
