ATC Sneak Peaks

Not sure if you are all aware, but we’re posting sneak peaks of our ATC system on our YouTube channel right here on this list:

Playlist is here

I just recorded another one today that will be out in a few days.

If there’s anything you folks want to see ask! I can’t guarantee that I can show it, but if I can I’ll see about getting some pictures/video.

and I can’t wait. I think I’m going to upgrade to EX, AV40s, and ATC rack at the same time…

That’s one way you can do it, you can also get EX now if you wanted to get familiar with it. All of the ATC stuff will plug right into it

Is that vertical tool holder style been around a while or is it something new? And it’s great that the dust boot works with it!!

This is designed in house by us. A LOT of work went into designing these so they perform awesome (And last forever)

We will see I might cave….I have a habit of collecting projects. I should probably wait so I can get my shop remodel wrapped up. New shop lights somehow snowballed into a complete remodel….New dust collector, new duct work, new air compressor and air lines, painted the ceiling and walls and countless other side projects. I have a sickness.

Yeah but you got to love it though

You should let me test out the tool pockets I need about 20 , should take care of both machines.

We already tested first articles on these… over 100k cycles on them and they’re still holding up!

Were the test cycles on the 3D printed ones or the injection molded ones?

Should we expect even better performance from the final part?

Injection molded. 100k cycles is a lifetime of tool changes.

Odd question. Once AVID has their software updates for ATC, will it be able to support mixed tool holders, pockets and forks?

Yes, but there are some caveats. We’re selling and supporting the vertical exchange holders which work with our rack, dust shoe, etc.

If you do want to use forks or other styles of tool holders software support will be in there, but may require some customizing on your end to make it work.

I am testing different tool holders on my test rigs as we develop things.

It may have been asked and answered already but what is the max tool diameter your vertical exchange holders can accept?

1.75 " approx. Basically they can’t be wider than an ER32 collet

You can also have as many tools “out of the rack” as you want and they can be any size you want.

We are also software supporting fork tools (but not selling forks initially) so if you want to mount forks somewhere on your table that’s fine, they will work.

That may work out well, switching from a 2” to 1.5” surfacing bit wouldn’t be a big change.

Even if you did stick with a 2" surfacer, you can still have it in your tool change workflow. If that 2" tool isn’t in your rack the control ask you for it and all you do is press the spindle button, swap tools, and press the button again and off you go… As long as you’re nearby the “manual” swap is super fast
