EX Controller basic project walk through

Is there a basic project video out there using the Centroid CNC12 software? There are some great Mach 4 videos. But it would be helpful for a CNC noob to have one from VCarve to finished project. Similar to the ‘Simple CNC Tool Tray’ one.

I have been searching for this my self. Luckily thanks to some awesome people on the forum i was able to make my first cuts today but the modified by avid cnc12 software has a lot of surprises that need to be explored.

So far what i can say is the following,
After installing the cnc12 software, run the avid wizard, once you set up all your machine specs, go to accessories and enable the probe.
After that watch Erics youtube video on how to set up the probe, holkow those steps.
From this point, if you dont experience any hickups you should be able to run a file. Make sure you download and install the new Avid Ex post ptocessor in vcarve and remember to change to that post processor before saving the file.

I/we are actively working on one

I’m with you, I know very little about cnc12 but I didn’t know much about Mach4 for either

What type of probe are you talking about, a stylus touch probe? If so one is not required for cutting, you can use the touch plate that comes with our machines. Stylus probes are for pretty specific use cases.

Sorry i keep getting my terminology confused, i was referring to the tool setter.

No worries!

And just we we’re on the same page:

The “tool setter” (or as we call it, the “tool height setter”) is the fixed touch off plate. That’s not something that you need to enable, it’s on in the software by default. You do need to set it up ahead of time though. That’s one in the UTILs menu.

Same goes for the mobile touch plate (the one with the brass center plate) that comes on in the software by default.

This is how your “probe” page should look unless you specifically are using a touch probe:

@Eric do you think you could create a document that walks you though the process? Or maybe point out some other resources on the Internet that would be similar. I’ve tried Google, but nothing seems similar to what we would do on our Avid machines. Thanks

I don’t have something I can give you immediately… however can you tell me what you’re confused about/what you would want to see in a video like that?

A similar walk through like the tool tray you have for mach4 would be nice!!
