I have a height limitation for my tool because the CNC machine head may collide with the object. Therefore, I want to perform the operation in two steps. I can generate two separate toolpaths manually, but I’m wondering if there is an automatic way in PowerMill that can calculate and divide the machining into 2, 3, or even 4 steps to avoid collisions.
I have not used personally use PowerMill, but it’s likely a similar workflow to how you might do that in Fusion:
You just treat the rotary as an indexer. Basically you to a 3 axis job on one side of your workpiece, rotate the axis, do another 3 axis job, and repeat until you’ve reached all of the sides you want to work on.
In Fusion this is done using “tool orientation” If the kinematics of your machine are setup correctly Fusion knows that when you ask for the tool to be “tilted” it actually rotates the 4th axis.
Hopefully that’s helpful
