I was asked if I could machine (through holes) a ‘sandwich’ of 5 mm neoprene (30A to 40A durometer) between two pieces of 19 mm MDF. The neoprene is bonded (glued) to both pieces of MDF.
I have no idea how a spiral upcut/downcut/compression bit would react to this, but I have a feeling it would not be good.
Does anyone have any experience with anything like this?
I wouldn’t hesitate to cut that with a straight flute bit. I would pocket the holes out and be careful that the adhesive is not failing during machining. Considering that you’re going to be at 43mm DOC, I would actually recommend using a 1/2” down cutting low helix bit with pretty shallow passes.
Good Luck

Thanks for the suggestion. I was thinking along the same lines.
I’m hoping someone has hands-on experience with this, or similar, and will share their experience.
