Minimum Temperature For Running the CNC

I’ve not seen or found an answer for this anywhere, so I figured I’d ask here. As it gets colder, I’m wondering if there’s a minimum shop temp I should observe when it comes to the Avid CNC electronics. For instance, it was 41°F (5°C) in my shop this morning, so I didn’t fire up until the heater got the temp up to 50°f (10°C.) I know that’s probably overkill, but that’s what I did. I do use the Spindle Warm Up routine whenever I haven’t used the spindle for over 6 hours, so that’s not an issue. I also run all 3 axes through their limits for a few minutes to get things warmed up a bit. So my main concern is the electronics. Is there a minimum shop temp I should observe when it comes to the Avid CNC electronics?

Electronics should be fine; it’s more an issue with the spindle and bearings.

During the winter, I run my AVID with the shop at 35 or lower sometimes. I just make sure I warm up the spindle and move the 3 axes back and forth several times. I have had no problems

During winter, my shop is often around 32°F (0°C) in the morning, but never below. I don’t have a heating system; instead, I rely on the heat generated by my machines (spindle, vacuum pump, vacuum system, etc.). After about an hour of running, the temperature in my shop rises to around 60°F (15°C), which is perfect for me. I actually struggle more during the summer.

I run the spindle warm-up procedure every morning and have never had any issues. Fingers crossed!

This is the first winter with a spindle but what I typically do is run the heater to take the chill out the air. If I run it longer I’m taking the cap an hoody off. So its really about how I’m feeling in the shop an how comfortable you are!! 50 to 60 degrees is ideal for me. AI said a constant 50 to 80 degrees for electronics.
