Mozaik Software with EX Controller

Anyone have any experience using Mozaik Software with their Avid and EX? I got into a cabinetry job and bought their program to try out.

Main questions I have right now are about setting up the post processor.

  1. When filling out the post processor request form, it asks if tool touch-off is on top of material or top of spoilboard. It also asks what output for Z values, negative or positive. Mainly being used to Vcarve, I put on top of material and output Z values as negative. Was that correct?
  2. I want to use “blind dado qualified tenon” as a construction method. When using that construction method, should I instead go with tool touch-off on top of spoilboard? Would that mean that my output Z value would now be positive? I’m just wondering if that would be more accurate for the dados and tenons since thicknesses of sheet-goods can vary slightly.

Let me know if there’s anything else I should keep in mind or watch out for when setting this software up and giving it a trial run for future cabinet jobs.

Technically either answer is correct, you just need to touch off to your material consistent with what you said in the post request. However the “correct” way to do sheet goods in cabinetry is to have no Z offset and use the spoilboard as a reference. I did a video on this:

That video I linked should help you get to the right answer.

I JUST submitted a specific EX post to Moziak for them to put in their library last week. I am not sure if it’s live just yet. Hopefully they get it to you. In the short term you can use the Centroid post they have, just don’t use the Mach one.

Thanks Eric! Awesome explanation in that video. I did receive a post file earlier today to input. It doesn’t look like they have EX officially listed in their library as of yet.

Although, now I’m realizing I should just be zeroing to my work surface to make life easier for sheet goods like you mentioned. I’ll just request a new post reflecting that.

Just to confirm, when selecting touch-off to spoilboard, output Z Value will now become positive, correct?

Thanks again!

For cabinetry I would recommend zeroing to the table. Every plywood sheet has an inconsistent thickness. If you want all of your rabbets and dados to be the same thickness then you must zero off of your table, otherwise you will have to enter the exact thickness of each sheet as you make it, which can be tedious and error prone.

You don’t really have to worry about this as the correct post takes care of this for you.

By “work surface” I meant zeroing to table/spoilboard. Sorry if that was confusing.

All makes sense. Thanks again for the help!
