Need your advice on AV spindle basics

Hey guys, I’m trimming spindle today before I install the auxbox and had a few basic questions.

The acorn wizard doesn’t have a listing for the av 40 s so I put it on the AV 70 is that going to be okay?

When you warm up your spindle do you have a tool holder in or out?

When you’re done for the day do you leave the last tool holder in?

Thanks

Yup

Doesn’t matter

If you have huge temp swings in the shop it might be best to take it out

And even if you don’t, take it out anyway. If the spindle is hot and it cools with a tool in it, it may jam.

I had left a tool in my spindle for about a month while traveling and when I got back I could not get it to release. I searched the forum here and found a thread saying it may need a little persuasion. I was able to get the tip of a large screwdriver between the collar of the tool holder and the base of the spindle. It just took a bit of light prying but it popped right out.

I make sure the tools are out of the spindle when I’m not going to be around the machine for a while.

The heating is another good reason. I suppose the rate of thermal expansion between the tool holder and the spindle could be different enough to cause some sticking upon cooling.

This is all useful information thank you!!!
