Touch Plate Z Issue(s) after ATC

Hey Folks:

Has anyone encountered a touch plate issue(s) after they set up the ATC and moved their Tool Height Setter (THS) to the rack?

The issue I am having is the touch plate does not register the work surface after touch off, and seems to retain the work surface set up on the THS. I have been manually setting the Z (after a friend ruined a bit and a nice piece of Cherry).

I’ve checked to see if I am missing something in my Acord Wizard.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Do you mean that the mobil touch plate (the one with the brass plate) is not triggering when you touch it to your bit?

Or that you’re running the “set part zeros” and trying to zero Z and it’s touching off but not recording the Z height?

Yes Eric. The latter. It works as usual (touches off and not digs in) but when you check it is close to the spoil board Z. I am sorry that I am at work and cannot measure it exactly. If I were an engineer (I’m not, so I’m arguably disabled) I would have screen shotted the touch plate Z and the material surface Z as compared with the spoil board.

Oh and Eric: I haven’t checked if I do not use the ATC after the touch plate. This has happened when I have a tool change after using the Touch Plate.

Ok, do this:

When you’re home put a piece of material on the table

Then go to Set Part Zeros and Z tough off to the top of the material (you can do XY too if you want, but you don’t need to for this, you can just to “Z only”)

Let it do it’s thing.

Then go to the “WCS CSR” table and you’ll see offsets for X Y an Z. Look for Z. The number there should be pretty darn close to the thickness of your material you just touched off to. If it’s way off your spoilboard may need to be setup again

Thanks Eric. I will do this this evening and reply.

For me the times when the Z zero and depth of cut was not working properly - is I had resurfaced the spoilboard, and had not gone back into the utility menu and reset the height of the spoilboard.

Good luck.

Hey Eric:

Weird results. No correlation with the actual height after touch off. Go back to change tools and the toolibrary is cleared out (non-setup). I just used it yesterday.
I thnk it’s unfair to tie you up here. I’ll call in to support for a time slot.

Thank you.

I had that happen to me once. I shut down CNC 12 and restarted my profile haven’t had it happen again since.

Hey Eric:

Leire from customer support called me last night and worked through the issue(s). I wanted to let you know (and for anyone else interested) 1) I cannot say enough about how patient and helpful Leire was - not just in diagnosing the issues, but in picking up where I was struggling in concept(s); 2) the issue was that I somehow imposed an unmeasured tool from the rack after using the touch plate to Zero Z. We set up a process of always using the same tool outside of the rack (like 11) to zero the surface, and made sure my ATC measures each time it pulls the tool (which shouldn’t matter, but is a lot more logical). So simple I’m bummed I didn’t think of it!

One other thing that Jeff alluded to was that under the current version I should always shut down in a certain sequence (and perhaps start up too) to ensure I do not wipe out my tool database. The new version will let us backup and restore so that is not a big deal in the near future.

Anyway - I really value your help, and it’s nice to have input by others.

Thank you.

Thanks Jeff.
