I bought a CNC Router Parts 4896 PRO NEMA 23 in 2017 and have used it daily to cut foam for custom cases (https://www.houstoncustomfoam.com/). I have been wanting an OTK for a while because I think that it’s a better fit for what I do. I 'm looking forward to faster cutting, no dust, and much less noise.
I tried to buy an OTK head from a domestic source without luck, so I got it from Damen CNC in Holland (https://www.damencnc.com/en/). It came quickly and without much trouble through customs, just an extra $150 for import duty. I thought that I could source the connectors locally, but it was more trouble than expected, so I went back to Damen CNC to buy the connectors with pigtails already on them.
The blade oscillates according to the supply voltage, so I installed a 24V power supply in the existing brain box to allow the OTK to run at the max, 7000 strokes per minute. It’s mounted on a piece of DIN rail and wired to Relay 1. Relay 2 is connected to the dust collector/vacuum hold down system.
Next, I did a mock-up of the mount for the OTK and didn’t like it so my friend is going to weld up something for me. Coincidentally, I’m buying a bunch of extrusion from him to extend my table to 48x108 or more.
Once I get the mount figured out, I’ll start wiring it up and will report back then. I would welcome any tips that you can offer.
