**Axis Drive Type stuck on "Bench Test DB25" after fresh profile import — Custom tab empty, motors not moving**

Machine: PRO CNC 4×4, EX Controls Servo, Smart AV70S spindle, CNC12 v5.24, Profile Manager 1.12.0.0

After a mid-job abort followed by a CNC12 reinstall attempt, I ended up with a corrupted profile. I’ve since done a full clean reinstall of Profile Manager and CNC12, and imported a fresh copy of the Router v5.24 u1 profile (acpm-profile-router-5.24_r0_u1.acp).

The machine connects fine and the Avid CNC wizard runs correctly — Pro CNC, Servo, 4x4, AV70S all selected and written. However in the Advanced wizard under Primary System → Axis Drive Type, it always shows “Currently Loaded Axis Motor Drive: Bench Test DB25”. The Custom tab is completely empty — no drive definitions present.

Result: DRO moves on screen when jogging but motors don’t physically move. Machine is in simulation mode.

I’ve tried:

  • Multiple fresh profile imports
  • Full uninstall/reinstall of Profile Manager and CNC12
  • Deleting C:\cncm\ before reinstalling
  • Running PC Tuner after every install

This is not relevant. Those are motor settings presets that you can load if you’re doing a custom install. The Avid wizard sets these all for you.

There’s no simulation mode, sounds like something isn’t setup properly, or you have a hardware issue.

Did you run through this video to get setup: https://youtu.be/g3MMSJ8NxzQ

Also, can you confirm what machine you actually have? Are you sure you’ve got a servo system and not steppers?

When the job aborted what happened? Were there any messages on screen?

Hi Eric thanks for replying so quickly.

I’m sure I have the servo system, I’ve upgraded from the nema 34 to servo plus smart av70s spindle. It also worked properly for about 6 months till the issue happened. If it help with diagnosis, a weird other issue began before - the fan of the spindle was stuck and still is on 100% and isn’t stopping.

I’ve followed the instructions after reinstalling the software and the profile and it looked like it was about to be fixed but after everything the software showed that the x y z is moving but in real life the motor didn’t move at all. Unfortunately, now the machine isn’t connecting to the software again, although there’s a heartbeat and the ethernet cable is ok and there’s a ping and all.

I feel like its a hardware issue too. I can tell you only what my employee told me on sunday (cause i wasnt there when it happened) - the machine came to a sudden stop (no collision or anything). On Sunday I’ve tried to upload the software and was stuck without being able to connect to the machine and then after many tries, I’ve reinstalled … and you know the rest.

This is a guess, but it sounds like the controller needs a firmware flash. Sounds like the PC went offline for some reason and corrupted the control. This is fixable in the field. Make a ticket with support and they can diagnose better than my guess and get you up and running. They’ll likely want to setup a time to troubleshoot and it’s best that you’re at the machine so they can go through things with you. Use the contact button up top on this page.

That’s what I thought. I already opened two tickets this past week and wrote a comprehensive email detailing everything + screenshots t your support but didn’t get any response. If you can direct their attention to it , it would be much appreciated. Name is Roy from monday.com

I believe we have a few people out this week. They will get to you.

As it stands right now what happens when you power the machine up and launch CNC12, does it connect at all?

Now it doesn’t connect at all. There’s a heartbeat but no connection.

Did you change anything with your network setup at all? (new cables, new ethernet card, etc)

Nothing changed

You might have soft bricked the Acorn. This can happen but it’s pretty rare. Read this doc and make sure this is actually what’s going on…

Be 100% sure your ethernet setup is correct before doing this

There are debricking instructions there. They need to be followed exactly. No “quick formats” or using SD cards that don’t match what is called for there.
