So I have been making Last Supper carvings for years now. The most popular size is 26 x 16 or so, this can take upwards of 40 hrs to complete, not a problem they always sell. here is the thing I want to know, if I was in the middle of one of these jobs and had to work on a shorter projects, would having more than one WCS setup allow me to switch back to the LS job I was on without any alignment errors or anything? I know that once I calibrated my rotary axis it always shows the angle with a line in it next to the X axis.
Being retired I haven’t really focused on production, things get done when they get done. But life happens and things change and I hate to even mention it here cause it is a heavy load but my wife of 42 yrs has been sent home to die of lung cancer. Due to other compounding medical issues she requires 24/7 caregiver services. Insurance will not or has not covered this and it is costing me over $2600 per week at $16/hr, yes you read that right. $10,752 a month. So I am working as hard as a one man operation can to keep paying for this.
Sorry , to hear your wife is loosing the battle with C.
The short answer for your WCS is yes. When setting up your LS carve write down the WCS numbers relative to machine home so you can return to them later to reset your LS WCS. For Z if I set it off the top of material, I will then probe my vise top or something else that does not move on the table and note that so I can reset a tool height to that reference later.
One condition, do not move your LS carve when you go to do other work some place else on the table.
Hope that helps.
I pray Jesus keeps you and your wife wrapped in his love while passing through this impossibly tough time.
You could also add those coordinates to your WCS table so you can jump back to it when needed. This might be handy if you do many of the same size LS carvings as it would give you a dedicated WCS for those jobs while you could use other WCS’s for other work.
I have been doing LS’s for a long time, the ones you find out on the web but the details were ok but not great, then I found the lady in Ukraine that sharpens the resolution I guess, to be honest I don’t know what she does, but it was worth the $100 I sent to her for sure.
