So now that the laser “cat is out of the bag” I can share some of the things I’ve been making with it.
These rulers have been fun to do. The accuracy is on point!
The camera makes it look a little off, but my Starret ruler lines up perfectly with this laser etched ruler.

Nice. Just don’t use them to calibrate your axis linearity 
Sounds like a fun little project after you get things dialed in what type of metal is that?
