'Remote' Arming of Laser

45W Opt, EX controller. When I start up, I turn on the EX box and the Laser box (and the spindle box so I don’t get a spindle error). I also arm the laser at that point because it is not exactly convenient to arm it every time I want to run something. But then the fan runs constantly. It isn’t that is exactly loud, but I would rather hear the radio or a visitor talk without having to go turn it off when it isn’t firing.

Is there a way to add a second arming button I could put next to the last itself? I am sure I could take the box apart and move the arming ‘plate/board’ but I am not 100% sold on that due to upsetting the pretty box I have.

Does anyone have a remote arming setup idea they could share?

And on a separate note, I created a profile that did not have a spindle so I wouldn’t have to start up the spindle, but I use the spindle offset for measuring XY zeros sometimes so that didn’t work out as planned.

There is a remote arming switch that can be wired to that OPT box. We don’t sell or support one but you can look up the wiring diagram for it. Hooking that up is pretty simple.

Besides a seperate switch that Eric mentioned, you can also wire that to a relay in the controller and put a button on the cnc12 screen to toggle it. The remote arm control is a momentary contact (just like the actual arm button on the adapter box), so you need to make the relay close and then open with a single button push.

Potentially even better: You can configure an output in Centroid to “laser reset” which I believe will toggle the laser on and off when needed. I’ve never used this output, but it is in there, so that might be worth experimenting with.

This actually looks pretty easy. A remote switch and/or a centroid connection. I have a couple of projects to finish (after I replace gears and belts), but I will post my results when I am done.

Thats what I was planning on doing eventually, so that I could have a test fire button that enabled the laser, and also enable via Gcode. Then you don’t have to listen to the laser fan or get up and walk over and toggle it all the time.
