Spindle drawbar open during laser jobs

I have a CNCDepot ATC spindle and the Opt Deployable Laser setup.

During laser jobs the spindle’s drawbar is automatically engaged (sustained open) and it consumes massive air volume for the duration of the laser job.

My compressor is 200psi / 27gal and it kicks off about every 1.5 minutes.

I’ve temporarily blocked the drawbar pressure at the spindle inlet with a fitting.

Is this a condition that can be solved in the macros or do I need to resort to a manual intervention like an inline lever gate or solenoid valve, etc?

Sounds like you have the drawbar wired into output 1 which is the laser deploy.

You probably should wire your drawbar output to relay 6 which is reserved for the torch fire. If you’re on a non plasma system this will be a free output for you to use for this purpose.

As far as how you’re triggering that output… you’ll have to adjust it accordingly.. So if you manually edited a macro to fire output 1 you’ll need to edit that to 6, if you set the output in the wizard per CNC Depot’s instructions you’ll need to change it there.

Thanks Eric.

I’d followed the Corbin Dunn setup and had to accommodate for the laser b/c he hadn’t incorporated one by that time.

I’ve also got a spindle-mounted momentary switch wired in there for the drawbar release.

Doesn’t surprise me I’d missed something.

My current setup:

I don’t understand which wires operate your drawbar…

Which relay is it plugged into?

And once we figure that out we need to understand how Corbin wants you to setup the software.. it’s likely that you need to set one of the outputs in the wizard to “unclamp tool”

Apologies Eric, scratch that drawbar button part.

It slipped my mind that the drawbar button is wired into the spindle control box.
