I dont like the needle attachment. And Im finding cheaper prices. And im finding some that are self lubricating and with extra cleaning wipers. SO Im askign around to find people who may have also looked for alternatives.
I’ve bought a lot of cheapies for other projects - things to keep in mind - you need to take all the “straight from china” ones apart and clean them in acetone/isopropyl and then re-grease them. Most have been sitting full of grit for a long time. second, replacing them can be a bit of a task since re-loading them is a PITA.
if your issue is the zerk, why not just pull your existing ones, clean them, add more wipers, and replace the zerk? Do you really think you’ve worn them out, or are they just dirty?
i run 2 5x10s all day long 5-6 days a week. Batching out the same thing over and over. Dust collection and Dust Boots are enemies to what im making. The dust is needed. I use Up/Down compression bits to keep the dust in the kerfs for stability issues. I even have to add dust on top of my project to assist in keeping the kerfs packed. So the linear rails do not get any love. My bearing get packed with dust quicker than most. Im replacing Y axis Bearing 2x a year. ( should probably be 3). I just watched a video on how to clean and repack. Im going try and do this with the next set i replace. I replaced the needle fitting with regular zerks… But the threads are plastic and look very weak. And when i go to take the grease hose connection off the zerk. The zerk is real stubborn in releasing it, and i feel like im gonna rip the zerk out of the threads. I would love a link to buying just the wipers and see how well adding more wipers might help. I just look at the set up and have to think there are better ways. I cant be the only one. So im trying to see who has done what and what has and has not worked for them.
How much compressed air do you have in your shop? I wonder if you could rig a literal 3d printed blowoff nozzle on the Y and X blocks? - maybe 15-20PSI would do it.
Also, if your issue is grease attracting too much dust, have you considered running light oil or even drylube and maybe compressed air into the zerk fitting to create a “positive pressure” inside the block?
