Some quirks of CNC12 - ideas appreciated

So I just finished my upgrade to the EX controller, servo motors, and the AV40S, and I am trying to get into a repeatable work flow. One of my challenges has been during the tool change - when the machine stops for a needed tool change - it asks me what the diameter of the bit is BEFORE it tells me what the tool number is. I didn’t used to print out the job summary sheet from Vectric, but now I need to so I can remember which tool is next. Is this in a configuration setting somewhere ?

I am also having an odd problem with my pendant - I’m not always sure when it will start working. Before homing you have to jog the machine - on start up sometimes the pendant will be working, but sometimes not. I’ve read in here about the pendant lag, and USB port types / possible Windows 11 problem. Not sure if that is me or not.

Last thing - I was using the slabslayer tool that Eric has posted about here. I would make a pass, and then I would manually change the current Z height so I could just run it again - rinse and repeat. After doing this multiple times in a row - I was shocked and amazed when the spindle did not start. No idea why. Spindle had started up properly the five previous times - why it skipped it on run #6 is a mystery.

Any wisdom from others would be greatly appreciated.

The tool it is changing to is at the top of the screen. It isn’t obvious but the Txx is the tool you are switching to.

Did you accidentally turn off your VFD or set the spindle to manual control with the on screen switch?

No - did not power cycle VFD, and I don’t believe I came near “manual control” on the screen. [Don’t know how to do that actually - I’d have to hunt and peck for it to figure it out, but no.]

Thx

You can post the exact G code you ran and I can take a look at it

The current gcode line is usually always at the very top of the screen directly above the graphed job when it’s running. So when switching to the next tool, say Tool #3, then you will see “T3” at the top, indicating which tool is next while prompting you to input the diameter.

There’s a slider switch labled “Auto Spin” near the top of your controls.
