I guess this question is for Eric @ Avid directly. Once we install this harness, I understand we can just cut the blue wire with magnet right off of the touch plate. What I am wondering is…. will we still need the magnet for calibrating the rotary axis? I saw you still use the magnet in setting up the rotary axis in your video.
The grounding harness negates the need for the magnet in any situation where you are using the touch plate. Be sure to double check that you have continuity: https://www.avidcnc.com/dl/cad.pdf/Auto_Z_Touchplate_Magnetless_Instructions.pdf
Ok great! Thanks for the followup. I assume we WILL still need to put the red wire from the dowel in the chuck on the touchplate though during setup? Is this correct?
That is correct
Perfect! Thanks so much! Have a great evening!
@Eric - Question about the alternate wiring options for the touch plate.
I’ve never had to use the magnet with my EX controller and the touch plate. Should I order one of these to future proof my setup or am I just good to go?
If its working now there’s not reason it will stop working, so no need for that harness.
