Do you really need a 30amp circuit to run a 4hp Avid spindle? I’ve never owned a spindle and I hooked it up to my 20 amp circuit and I"m getting a F1 code in the vfd which states it’s either over or under powered. I assume it’s under powered.
These are our power requirements:
Sounds like the VFD programming might not be correct?
Your circuit ampacity will not affect your VFD until it trips. If you don’t do a 30amp cut, your spindle won’t draw 30 amps, so, it should work fine. I agree with Eric that your VFD programming or wiring is the problem, not the breaker.
Well in full disclosure I don’t have it fully setup to an avid controller or any controller. I purchased it used and I wanted to test it out. I’ve never owned a Spindle /vfd before. It’s on a 20amp circuit. I know zero about programming the VFD. Do I just hit the reset button? The previous owner might have given me the controller / VFD box that maybe was from a 3hp spindle? he had several.
Sounds like this VFD doesn’t have the right parameters programmed into it. You’re going to need to likely learn to program a VFD to make this spindle work.
Clough42 on YouTube has some great tutorials on how to do VFD programming.
The parameters he shows aren’t going to be exactly what you need but you can learn how to operate a VFD and research what parameters you would need to alter to make the VFD work.
Thanks Eric - Hope you had a wonderful 4th of July buddy!
