Touch-Probe Calibration

I have been using Mach 4 with the touch plate for a few years now. Everything works fine for when I need to work on a project that is within the boundaries of the raw material. There are some circumstances where I want to start directly off the edge of the material. The issue I have discovered is that the offset for the touch plate almost seems arbitrary and doesn’t seem to take into consideration the diameter of the end mill. My current solution is to not use the touch plate in those situations. Is there an offset setting I can modify to compensate for tool diameter?

Are you not using the AVID touchplate utility? That has the diameter of the tool in it and does compensate for tool diameter.

Yes, I do. I did double check it as I exclusively use a 0.25" drill rod for aligning the X and Y axis. So, I should not have to change it. But your answer did make me double check all the other settings. I did some more reading, and it turns out that the dimensions for the touch probe were changed from default settings. I have since corrected and verified the settings. We’re looking good! Thank you! Time to talk to the kid and discuss machine privileges.
