Upgrade for slab flattening

I’m planning a spindle retrofit for my Avid CNC PRO 60x120 with the EX Servo system, with the 8.7 HP, because I’m flattening over 150 slabs
What do I need to do and buy
Or do you have any thoughts on the best way to do this
Thanks for the help

Thats a great machine for slabs.

You’ll want a good cutter (I like the slab slayer from RIP) and an extra box of cutters.

Second, you’ll want good dust collection. Slab flattening generates a lot of chips, so get a 2hp or bigger DC with a large capacity bin. You want a dust boot that has a brush that is around 6” round so that it still sucks good when you are at the edge of the slab.

Get a box of door shims to shim up the slab for when you are cutting the first side.

Call AVID for what you need as far as the spindle upgrade is concerned.

Jim is spot on with his reply.

I have the 8.7 spindle and have flattened a lot of slabs. I run the large slab slayer and also the Amana RC 2259 (3 11/32) 3/4” shank, .25 DC and 200-300 ipm. Your need a good size dust collector to remove all the chops efficiently.

For flattening I use a “Rawwooding” dust boot.

Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.
