I have an Avid Pro 48 X 48 bought in 2021. Never upgraded smoothestepper or Mach4. Running fine with windows 10. I was considering upgrading to windows 11. Just wondering what effect if any that would have on Mach4. What if anything would I need to do after installing windows 11. Thanks for any thoughts.

If it aint broke don’t fix it ![]()
What Eric said! A bit over a year ago I was having issues with my controller computer because it was barely in spec. Also, I was thinking of upgrading to the EX Controller and that computer was definitely not in spec for CNC12. So I bought a new relatively inexpensive Dell computer and in so doing moved from Windows 10 to 11. I had no issues at all with Mach4 and no issues at all when I upgraded to CNC12 and the EX Controller.
Mach4 runs just fine on Win11, but Win11 doesn’t really offer you anything that Win10 doesn’t have as far as running a CNC machine, so if its working fine I’d just leave it alone.
With my IT professional hat on:
It should be fine provided you can’t access the public internet on it. I really mean “can’t” not “I just won’t go on the internet with it" since it can be easy to forget just once.
Right after the end of support, it probably won’t be a big deal to go on the internet. However, a few months or years later is a different story. All it will take is a single malicious ad or web page and you could have a real bad day.
Edit: Just thought I would add that the end of support from Microsoft is on windows 10 is October 14th, 2025 if you didn’t already know that. You can jump through a few hoops to get extended support for 1 year from Microsoft.
The only reason I was thinking about going to windows 11 is the fact that windows 10 support is ending. I am connected to the internet and would like to stay that way. I was just wondering if I did go to windows 11 what if any issues I might run into. If it is seamless then I will probably go ahead and upgrade to windows 11. Would I need to run the scu program etc. again. Thanks for all of your comments.
