My son gets married in April, so making nice jewelry box for our future daughter-in-law.
Should be way further ahead ( I also need to finish an acoustic guitar for him) but it’s been COLD in the shop this year.
Here are the nearly complete drawers (3 total). Dovetails and domino joints actually done on the Avid.
I pilfered the parts from my old Leigh Jig to make a vertical clamping fixture for the dovetails.
I intended to use the Domino (500) for the back joints, but the logistics of working on those small pieces (4mm dominos) was getting a little wild, so I just needed up modeling the domino mortises and cutting them on the Avid as well (using the dovetail fixture as well).
yeah, my guide pin rails got a bit corroded and I found impossible to get accurate setups on it.
However, the top clamp (horizontal for half blind pins) is not ideal, at least for how I have it currently configured. I had to restore the v1 clamp knob (as opposed to their upgraded lever clamps) as it was interfering with the dust boot, and I still can’t put the brush on it. So I’ll have to revisit the design.
@corbin here’s a pic showing how I used the Leigh bar clamps in the fixture. Of course you could use just a thick wood bar or even unistrut since you got rid of your Leigh.
I usually have it mounted backwards (toward the back of the machine) so that I can reference it off two bench dogs in the front table, to get it lined up with the X axis correctly.
I guess once I reconfigure the front extrusion per the Avid recommendations, I could still use the fixture, but like I mentioned the clearance of the top bar is an issue, so I’ll probably just build one more like yours (just got done reviewing your vertical table video again).
Update with pictures of the (MOSTLY) finished box. Need to fume the oak part of color, then spray poly on everything. Still printing all the gridfinity components for organizing the jewelry.
somehow I screwed up and the drawers ended up just a tad too narrow for the 42mm x 8 (despite planning for 2mm extra), but then I realized the gridfinity macro in F360 allows you to customize the “standard”. So I switched them all to 41.5….. WINNING!
