Introduction with a Father’s Day Project

Hey all, thought I would I introduce myself as my AVID 5x10 gets delivered tomorrow!!

I like to woodwork and I’ve had my Shapeoko 4 Pro for almost 4 1/2 years now, and absolutely love making CNC projects. The 5x10 is a huge upgrade and I wanted to give a shout out to the Avid team for squaring me away and shipping it so fast! Thank you so much.

For the last project on my belt driven machine :joy: and sunset it, Father’s Day weekend I decided to make some gun grips for my 1911.

I modeled 3 different versions: classic, solid honeycomb texture, and a Vcarve inlayed contrasting honeycomb texture, all with matching profiles.

Version 1: Big Leaf Maple
Version 2: Ziricote
Version 3: Ziricote and Quilted Maple

I still have some finishing as these are off the machine.

I’m excited to see what my new AVID can do! Day 1 starts tomorrow.

Cheers :clinking_beer_mugs:

Those look fantastic, man! You’re going to love the Avid. It’s whole 'nuther critter. As you’re a Fusion 360 user, you’re going to fit right in.

Those look awesome. I have birdseye maple grips on mine which I don’t really like. I’ve been wanting to make some new ones for a few years now, just haven’t gotten around too it.

I really like the honeycome idea.

A lot has happened in the past 15 days. I managed to show up to my 9-5 job to keep the lights on while assembling this thing. Had the electrician come in and install a bunch of 110 and 220 drops in the garage and finished the assembly and calibration of the AVID.

A little learning curve for the motion software, but felt comfortable enough to run a job that’s been on the back burner for a while that absolutely could not fail.

First project on the new avid was a claro walnut burl round table for my mother. The final diameter 53” and no issues with the flattening, pocket and cutout ops. It’s was butter…

Also had a chance to finish my gun grips that got pushed to the side with all the special activities.

Headed back home to deliver the table…cheers and happy 4th!!

The table is awesome.
If you are interested in selling the 1911 grip model, email me at jnwdwks@gmail.com. I have some rosewood that I’d like to do that on for my dads old 1911.
