Clearpath Servo Z-Axis Brake

I built my Avid CNC system with Clearpath servos prior to release of the EX-controller. I didn’t put in a Z-axis brake at the time, but my spindle drops about half the time so I use a wood block to hold it up when I park it.
I’m thinking of adding a brake now and have a couple of questions:

  1. Can the Avid brake be added to my CPM-SDSK-3421S-ELN Z-axis motor? From what I can see, the Avid brake doesn’t look like the Clearpath brake. I don’t really care if it works, I mean I’m using a block of wood now…
  2. The top bracket where the (pre-servo) Z-axis motor mounts is drilled for 6mm bolts while the holes on the Clearpath servos are 5mm. I did not want to drill out the mounting holes on my brand new servos so I found adapter bolts that are 6mm on one end and 5mm on the other. It also looks like the top bracket on the new Servo-based system has a different configuration to accommodate the brake connector. Can I order that top bracket separately to mount the brake and servo?
I run stock CNC12 so hooking up the brake and controlling it in CNC12 seems simple enough. Presumably 24 volts?
    Thank you,
    Scott

Our brake is 24 volts and is integrated into the bottom of the Z axis and replaces the existing drag brake. Check the support site for the servo retrofit and you will see how it works.

I am not sure if we sell the brake by itself but it wouldn’t hurt to ask support if you want one.

Thanks Eric. After looking over the Z-retrofit instructions I see how it works. Will see if I can order the whole retrofit kit for the Z-axis.

There are a few of us in the same boat as you so let us know how things go.
