Z-Axis Brake and clearpath

I am in the process of upgrading my Benchtop Pro router to Clearpath steppers.

I have ordered an electric brake for the z-axis Clearpath servo and my question is should I remove the mechanical brake that comes on the z-axis from Avid and if so what is the best way of doing that.

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks

The mechanical brake will no longer be needed if you have your servo brake setup to engage whenever the clearpaths are disengaged.

The mechanical brake is pretty easy to remove, you pull the bottom plate off of the Z and it should be pretty clear as to how to take it out.

Thanks Eric. If I remove the brake (I believe the cylinder shown in picture), then the ball screw end will not reach the bearing in the bottom plate. What am I missing?

Okay I resolved my question. I removed the braking mechanism (its a spring) and reassembled the unit so that the end of the ball screw is still supported by the bearing. Probably could have just removed the brake altogether and left the ball screw end unsupported, but this will effectively provide the same support as before removal of the brake.
