Custom box for a souvenir Roman sword

(First post after finding CNCZone abandoned… )

When we were in Pompei this summer, my niece bought a souvenir sword (more of a letter opener really) for her boyfriend. But she hated the cardboard box that it came in. So I promised to make her a cool presentation box for it.

This is what I came up with.

Materials:

  • recycled white oak from wine barrel seasoning sticks (used in stainless tanks)
  • Neodymium magnets
  • Minwax wipe on poly (4 coats, thinned to 50%)

The chocolate color which runs through the wood is the result of the tannins in the wood interacting with the wine.

(I tried to put more pictures but apparently I’m on parole… :expressionless: )

Fantastic project! It came out great. Big fan of upcycling materials.
