Lost x axis and now can't home

I bought a used machine got things set up and ran a few parts. On the last part after it completed the 3d roughing pass and was working on the 3D finishing pass it got stuck and keep running the code but didn’t travel the x axis.

I now try to re home the machine and its very jumpy in the x and y directions, it hits the proximity sensors and stops, but continues to jump. If I jog off the key board sometimes it goes the right way and sometimes goes the wrong way. I have ordered new shielded ethernet cables, is there anything else I should check?

Thanks in advance.

Tell us more about this machine… what size, vintage, controller type, etc is it? Some pictures would be helpful too

I think its an older 48x96 pro. It has some pices to make it 96, currently its around 75" long in total. I am pretty sure it has the nema 34 stepper motors, runs mach 4 hobby, let me know if you have any questions, I dont know a lot about it.
