Today, as I was preparing to operate my CNC, I performed a spindle warm up and then proceeded to home the machine. The Z limit was reached with no issue, but when the X axis moved, the machine produced a sound which I can only describe as a ‘judder’ accompanied by it traveling the wrong way and then refusing to move.
I swiftly paused the movement, and investigated further. I jogged the X axis manually and was met with the same results. Inspecting the motor and belt, I saw nothing amiss and everything was clean. Next, I removed the X drive motor and took off the belt, making the motion uninhibited. Continuing to manually jog, I found that the motor would spin clockwise or counterclockwise seemingly at random without my alternating the control buttons. Other times, it would seem conflicted in its direction and simply jiggle back and forth, especially if the jog speed was set to ‘slow’. After several minutes of this, I happened to set it back to ‘fast’ jog, and the motor juddered and jiggled and then at once began to operate as normal, and I have not been able to replicate my experience.
I have had this machine for just one year at this point, and if anybody has any input, ideas, or solutions, I would appreciate their response. Thank you!
