I am hoping to get the forum community eyes on this to help me figure out what I am missing. I have a PRO60120 with a CNC Depot RM70C with a rack ATC. I have been running Mach 4 for the past year with great results. Mostly nested cabinet parts using Mozaik and V Carve. ATC spindle has been solid and tool changes have worked great with CNC Depot M6 script. I just swapped over to an EX controller and am using Corbin’s relay wiring and cnmc files. The drawbar and case pressure work as they should, but I am not getting voltage to the spindle/VFD to run. Below are my diagnostics. VFD is Delta GS20. I have not changed any wiring in the CNC depot control box or VFD.
I removed the 14 pin cable and verified continuity on all pins. All good. I have continuity from J22 SP/THC+ pin 7 orange to VFD spindle FWD. I have continuity from J22 SP/THC- pin 8 green to the orange wire DCM on the VFD. See photo and attached VFD terminal pdf. Photo is while spindle is “running” display shows run-solid, fwd-solid, and stop-blinking. When the spindle is at 12000 rpm on the CNC12 screen the voltage at the H8 terminal block is 4.8V
H8+ is getting continuity to R1 and R10 of the VFD. This is also true for H8- I am not sure if this is supposed to loop through the VFD relay like that. If I measure voltage when the spindle is running I don’t get a reading at the VFD but I do at H8. The wires are label by CNC depot as VFD fault to R10 and fault com to R1. I double checked the 02.13 parameter to see if was 09 (drive ready) and it was. I set it back to 11 (malfunction indication) and tried the spindle and it indeed was a fault and would not let me run MDI, so I switched back to 09 (drive ready)
I checked the contactor leads on CWC012.10E and everything was tight and connected.
The CNC depot control box has an air pressure sensor. It is not wired into the 14 pin connector as far as I can tell. It is currently wired into the VFD and shut down at the VFD control when air is low. I see that J17 is for air pressure. Corbin added this into the Acorn board but I am not sure this is necessary if it shuts down the VFD in fault. I did not want to add on another variable until I can get the spindle turning. Although this could be my issue.
In summary, I am getting voltage of 4.8V at 12000 RPM at terminal H8 but I am not showing any voltage at R1 or R10 of the VFD, which according to continuity testing are the outputs of H8 to the VFD.

According to the Avid wiring diagram H8 AN OUT should be pin 9 to the 14 pin connector. H8 AN GRD should be Pin 10 on the 14 pin connector. Doing continuity check at the bulkhead 14 pin connector of the EX control box I am getting something different. H8 AN OUT has no continuity when powered off and continuity to pins 1 and 12 when powered on. H8 AN GRD has continuity to pin 12 when powered off and pins 1&12 when powered on.
I am not sure what to do with this as it doesn’t corollate with Avid wiring diagram. I tested this at the bulkhead connector and at the end of the 14 pin cable and had the same results. Any ideas of a testing method that will not compromise my VFD?
I triple checked my work with continuity testing and here are my result.
Pin 1 J19 GRD is incorrect and is wired to pin 12
Pin 2 J19 spindle Fault is correct
Pin 3 J22 Torch+ is correct
Pin 4 J22 Torch- is correct
Pin 5 no plasma
Pin 6 no plasma
Pin 7 J22 Spindle+ is correct
Pin 8 J22 Spindle- is correct
Pin 9 H8 AN OUT is incorrect and is wired to pins 1&12 when powered on no continuity when off
Pin 10 H8 AN GRD is incorrect and is wired to pin 12 when off pins 1&12 when powered on.
I am getting continuity for 3 things at pin 12. This is at the control box connector with no cable. The last diagram would be correct if the 14 pin connector were wired like the CRP521-00-xx N34 gland plate diagram. I doesn’t seem to be. At least with my continuity testing method. I am testing from the terminal block screws to the 14 pin pin holes. Is it possible that the 14 pin in the control box could have been wired wrong? I just received it last week and have been pulling out my hair trying to get this machine back up and running.
I’m not sure why you are getting those readings, but pin 12 isn’t even connected to anything.
The spindle fault signal is a dry contact signal that comes from the relay on the VFD itself. Depending on how it’s setup on the VFD it closes/opens when there’s a spindle fault
For spindle start, you can just do a continuity test between the two pins/wires that are responsible for that. When your spindle is commanded on there should be continuity between those two pins, and when it’s stopped there should be none.
For 0-10 volt just connect GND to black and + to red on your multi meter. The faster your spindle is commanded the higher the voltage goes, it will range from 0-10. If that’s all working you should be good to go
