My wife begged me to make her a soapdish for the bathtub in our newly remodeled master bathroom.
What I love about these requests are the smiles, hugs, kisses and shear joy it brings to my wife’s unexpected heart when she see’s the final results. I never showed her the final VCARVE PRO design, as it changed in features and size.
To those who love to create and do all things woodworking, customizing is the advantage over anything you can buy because you’ll spend more time searching and the purchased item never comes close to your exact individual needs. Need I say more?
Alas, I present the oversized soapdish! Laminated out of Walnut and Maple, 3/4 x 4 x 10!
That’s nice!
I’ll be interested to hear how the finish holds up under your use conditions. I like the Mohawk Pre-Catalzyed lacquer a lot and use it all the time. But I don’t have enough experience to know how hard you can push it before it starts to fail.
I was wondering the same thing. I ordered it after reading the reviews based on durability with water. So, we’ll see if what I read is true. If it starts to shows signs of wear, I could always sand it off and coat it with epoxy, I suppose. At worst case, I have the toolpaths saved to carve up another one. 4 tool changes and 10 minutes total. Maybe Teak and just let it be natural?
On a recent customer’s job, we were discussing some shortcuts (I get the designs from one person, but the material from another, and they don’t always match). We ended up deciding “if she doesn’t like it, I can always push the button again.” It got a laugh but it shows CNC’s strength - repeatability. Soap dish gets dropped and breaks? Push the button! Get another! Gets some water stains? Push the button! Get another! Changed the curtains and now the soap dish doesn’t match? Push the button! Get another!
