Using plasma without homing?

Hello…just saw on Centroid site you can use plasma without homing.

the reason to ask this because if I have a torch crash I need to move the machine all the way to the front. to rehome…and most of the time I need to cut just a small part… the first 8ft I use for cutting with router and the last 2 ft to plasma cut.

Is there a way to set this up for plasma only?

Tnx!

The machine does have to “home” to allow you to start using the controller. The default way to do this is off of the prox switches. However, you can go into the advanced side in the wizard and select “home in place” if you want. That way whenever you hit cycle start with the machine un-homed it will just set it’s home wherever it is.

Word of warning: If you do this you’ll lose any protection the soft limits give you from ramming into the end stops on your machine and losing position that way

One question on the calibration of the torch.

I see the youtube video but do not understand something.

If I run a calibration test for lets say 1/4 and if it is succesfull what does it do with this info and if not…do you readjust your settings until get a succesfull cut…and this should be done for all thickness?

or is more of a test before you start a project to make sure everything is ok?

Tnx!

When you run that test it just looks for a gross mismatch between the commanded voltage and the actual voltage of the torch. It’ll store that as an offset for every job you cut afterwards… So you only need to do it once with a thicker piece of steel and you’re fine.

For our Hypertherm torches which are of high quality I have personally yet to see it actually have to make a voltage adjustment. This is more for folks running less “good” (or super old) torches.

We still recommend it be done, but likely in most cases it just runs with stock voltage values

On the plasma restart…in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nyst12WoSo

at 12:50 he is running along the toolpath and it seems just pressing cycle restart and it resumes.

am I mistaken here? or this is another way to resume …as it seems faster.

I always get confused since I use the router 99% compared to plasma side.

Tnx!
