Z axis Problem. It lowers to the table when controller is turned off

Hi, if anyone has this issue, please let me know how to fix it.

Once I turn off the CNC Controller the Z axis lowers until the bit touch the table.

Let me know if anyone knows how to fix this, I remember that I had a similar issue 10 years ago in another CNC that I used to use, but I don’t want to try anything before asking in this forum.

I think this problem is also changing a little bit my Z Zero when I make long Gcodes with hours of routing.

Thanks !

Manu

See this thread:

Do you have a lot of weight on your Z axis? There’s a drag brake on there that should prevent that, but it might be getting overloaded or it’s worn out…

Hi Eric, thanks for the answer.
The only weight on the Z axis that i have is the shoe made of MDF for the dust collector.
This started like 1,5 years ago i think (i started using the CNC on june 2022).
I remember to have the same problem on another CNC and i’m pretty sure that was a set screw of the top of the z axis ball screw. That is the drag brake you are talking about ? i don’t know how the Z axis looks beacause it came already assemble.
I will check what you sent me.

My problem is much simple, i turned off the controller and the Z axis fall.
I will be back for more information.
Thanks

I’d give support a call/message. You could have a worn drag brake, or something even simpler like a loose set screw on the ballscrew.

I had the same problem with my steppers. The drag brake screw on my Z comes loose after a while. I added a little blue lock tight to them and tightened them up. Avid’s got a support doc about it, but I can’t find it right now.
