Extraction for 45w laser ideas

Hello,

I have my order in for the new 45 watt laser with the new mount they are working on. Do research on the fume extraction and wanted to ask what/how everyone is doing this. I found a couple post and see String Bean provided files. Wanted to see if anyone is doing something did and just help get other ideas/models on how to handle the fume extraction. Any guidance/support is appreciated!

Are you planning on venting indoors (filtered), or outdoors. What are you cutting?

I added a Amazon.com: AC Infinity CLOUDLINE PRO S6, Quiet 6” Inline Duct Fan with Speed Controller - EC Motor Ventilation Exhaust Fan for Heating Cooling Booster, Grow Tents, Hydroponics : Patio, Lawn & Garden ducted into my DC duct work and exhaust it outside. At the laser head I designed a custom pick up hood that I 3D printed. It attaches with magnets at the spindle in the same place as my normal dust boot brush. It does a good job of removing the smoke, but there is still that “camp fire” smell, so I added a second in line fan the just draws air from the ceiling and exhaust through a carbon filter Amazon.com: AC Infinity Air Carbon Filter 8" with Premium Australian Virgin Charcoal, for Inline Duct Fan, Odor Control, Hydroponics, Grow Rooms : Patio, Lawn & Garden

Between the two I am happy with the air quality in my shop.

Some form of smoke exhaust is really a must.

Currently I have a 20” industrial fan in the doorway blowing air outside, with open windows on the other side, and it’s not enough. My plan is, once I get the dust collection figured out, to have a way to move the dust hose from the DC to the fan (via a shroud of some sort?) to target the smoke better.

I’ve already told my customers that I don’t do laser projects in the winter

I like the idea of a boost fan to a dedicated exhaust port, though.

Hi Loren,

Thank you for the input, is the hood file something you can share? I have a 3D printer also.

haha, sounds like you just need a bigger fan! Appreciate it Djdelorie!

I would share the file (Fusion ) but my dust boot is something I designed and made so it will most likely not fit anyone else hardware. Here are some photos of the hood.

Thanks Loren, looks like a big fan might be the winner!
