Laser-proof bed?

What’s a good solution for something cheap and flat I can put on my bed to go UNDER whatever I’m lasering? I mostly have wood products, but they burn. I’d like something easy to manipulate (i.e. store  and about a couple feet on a side.

Is there something magic that will just “take” a laser beam without harm? Maybe a thin aluminum veneer on some heatproof foam?

(obviously, this is for cutting - paper so far, but I imagine thin wood and cardboard in the future. Not a problem for engraving, which doesn’t cut through)

Boom!

I read that thread, honestly

I was hoping to avoid honeycomb as it’s kinda expensive, and 2x3 feet is still small for me - I can cut up to 4x10 sheets of paper. Plus I think my laser has a longer focal length - I’ve burned wood many inches away from it by accident. I’d rather this laser-proof bed absorb the laser rather than let it fly past.

They make bigger honeycomb panels now, but 4x10 is huge, I haven’t seen them over about 4x4.
Most people line the bottom with a stainless steel sheet now to handle the higher power and longer focal lengths.

My other attempt was to use gypsum wallboard (sheetrock) but for the paper coating :frowning:

Could you do something similar to a plasma water table?

I don’t think so, as I also do regular wood milling, so this has to go on top of my regular wooden bed.

Oh I didn’t mean with the water but just making something that has the slats like a water table. Maybe you could make those out of thin pieces of wood and make it removable

I use the seklema mat. It’s like a self healing, sticky mat we use for trophy plate material in the awards shop. Keeps stuff in place. It has like an acrylic core so if you put a ton of power into the cut then you can cut through the mat, but you really have to put way more than you should.
